A bit of a blustery day for the first race of the new cross-country season, but there were a number of hardy looking people amongst them, all wearing the maroon and gold of Pudsey & Bramley AC.
First for the club to go were Rebeca Coope and Alice Sutcliffe in the under-13 girls. Rebeca had a good race to finish 5th whilst Alice was in the middle of a big bunch finishing in 39th.
In the under-17's P&B had some very strong performances. Chelsea Corrigan continued her fine cross-country running form finishing in 5th place, and was ably backed up by Amy Sutcliffe who wasn't far back in 10th. If one other girl had run we'd have got an almost certain 2nd place in the team. In the under-17 men Dion Whiteley and Ben McKay were our only 2 runners, Dion finishing 19th with Ben close behind in 25th.
With no senior women running, it was down to the men in the last race to get the only scoring P&B team in for the day. No sign of any t-shirts today, so it was just the men who toed the line. A rather conservative start from Ian Nixon led to his best ever result in the league with 12th place. There was then a bit of a tussle for the next Pudsey runner, but it was XC captain Neil Armitage who prevailed in 42nd, with John Holah (47th), Brian Stevenson (52nd) and Niall Bourke (63rd) all in close succession. A bit of a wait to see who would make the all important 6th spot for the team, and it was club stalwart Martyn Finn who got there in 133rd place, not far in front of Stuart Locking backing the team up in 147th spot. The team finished 7th out of 14 teams.
