Jack Bloor Race – 13 May 2014

With the Jack Bloor race being part of Captain Nixon’s Fell Championship, the Tuesday Training regulars decided to forgo the scheduled training and instead enjoy a jaunt over Ilkley moor.

We had a great turnout, with a 12-strong pack of P&B tackling the 5.2 miles and 1148ft route of the senior race. Though the weather was almost perfect for running, with just a slight breeze over the tops, the low setting sun did affect visibility causing some navigational errors, whereby people followed wayward (and possibly phantom) runners completely off the race route and away into the heather…  Once back on track for the final descent, I think most people agreed it was a beautiful evening’s racing.

If the vast turnout (by our humble standards) wasn’t enough cause for celebration, we also made a memorable impact on the prize giving, with us taking 5 category prizes.

Ian Nixon had an outstanding run to win overall, with Neil Armitage also winning 1st V40, Jonny Holah 1st V50, and Rachel Pilling 3rd Lady. A strong finish from Charlie Mcintosh also helped us snag the Men’s Team prize.

A thoroughly enjoyable race with a delectable Ilkley Brewery Ale to all finishers – well done to all P&B taking part, and thanks to organisers, the Jack Bloor Trust, as well as volunteers and sponsors.
